My husband recently got his U.S. green card and moved to Texas for work. I’m still in Bangladesh, and we’re now exploring how I can join him there. We keep hearing about a “dependent visa,” but honestly, I’m not clear on what that actually means. Does it allow me to live there? Work there? What should I expect?

A dependent visa allows the spouse or children of a U.S. citizen or green card holder to legally move to the U.S. If your spouse is a green card holder, you’d apply under the F2A category (family-based preference). If they’re a U.S. citizen, it’s faster, usually through the IR-1 visa.
It lets you live permanently in the U.S., and once your green card is approved, you can work legally too. The process starts with your spouse filing Form I-130, followed by a visa interview at the U.S. Embassy.
It’s a legit, structured path, not a temporary visa, and it\’s the right route if you’re planning to join your partner long-term.
