What’s the difference between a Confirmation Statement and an Annual Accounts?

I’m running a small business in the UK as a nonresident, and I recently received notifications about filing a Confirmation Statement and Annual Accounts. Are these the same thing? If not, what’s the difference, and do I need to file both?

The Confirmation Statement and Annual Accounts serve different purposes:

        Confirmation Statement
        * Filed annually to update or confirm the company’s details on the Companies House register (e.g., registered address, directors, shareholders, share capital).

        * It’s essentially a snapshot of the company’s current structure.

        * Filing Fee: £34 (online) or £62 (paper).

        Annual Accounts
        * A financial report summarizing the company’s performance, including balance sheets and profit/loss statements.

        * Submitted to Companies House and HMRC to meet statutory reporting and tax obligations.

        * Filing depends on the company size and accounting period.

Yes, you must file both as part of your compliance obligations in the UK. Failure to submit either on time can lead to penalties or the company being struck off the register
