I registered a company in the U.S. last year but stopped using it soon after. It’s inactive now, but I’ve heard I might still need to renew it. Is this true, even if there’s no activity or income?

Yes, even inactive companies must submit a Confirmation Statement and file accounts. If you no longer want to keep the company, you can apply for voluntary dissolution aka voluntary strike-off instead of renewal.
