When I set up my U.S. company as a non-resident, I quickly realized that managing taxes would be one of my biggest responsibilities. The first thing I needed to figure out was how my non-resident status impacted my company’s tax obligations.
The first step is to figure out if someone is a nonresident alien (NRA) or a U.S. resident alien. This depends on two tests:
1. The Green Card Test.
2. The Substantial Presence Test.
If a person doesn’t pass either test, they are considered a nonresident alien (NRA).
