What does it mean when my tax return says ‘Transmitted’?

I filed my taxes online this week and checked the status today. It says “Transmitted,” but I’m not exactly sure what that means. Does ‘Transmitted’ mean the IRS has accepted it, or is there another step before it’s officially filed?

When your return status says \”Transmitted,\” it means your tax return has been sent electronically to the IRS. However, it hasn’t been processed yet.

        Here’s what happens next:

The IRS will review your return to ensure key details match their records, such as:
        Your name matching your SSN/EIN
Your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) from the prior year.
        Other essential information.
After this review, you will receive a notification indicating whether your return has been Accepted or Rejected.

Until you receive this notification, the IRS hasn’t begun processing your return. Keep an eye out for updates to confirm the next steps.
