Before brexit I always paid VAT on items I exported from the UK in the UK. Now I pay it here in France. Why do so many brexit fans insist that before brexit all UK VAT went to the EU, even though their own ONS said it was only 0.3%?

There are many misunderstandings and examples of incorrect information. Some in the UK are now complaining that they are now being charged EU VAT if they buy from the EU when in fact it is UK VAT. The difference is that the VAT is being collected on entry into the UK rather than by the supplier in the EU … this gives the impression that they are being charged extra because of EU red tape or Brexit [depending on one’s point of view]
