I’m visiting the U.S. on a B1/B2 visa and thinking of applying for an ITIN. If I do that, will it affect my chances of renewing or getting another B1/B2 visa in the future?

Generally, getting an ITIN does not by itself help or hurt your chances of another B1/B2. It’s neutral.
Consular officers decide under INA 214(b) based on ties, travel purpose, and prior compliance. An ITIN is only for U.S. tax reporting by people without an SSN; it gives no immigration status or work authorization. If your ITIN reflects legitimate tax compliance (e.g., bank interest, treaty withholding), it’s neutral/positive. If records suggest unauthorized work or lengthy stays inconsistent with B1/B2, that can negatively affect renewal.
